Quantum drive fails in Quadra 650 but not in IIsi

I had a Quantum ProDrive 230 failure in my Quadra 650 (machine wouldn't boot, Apple HD SC Setup 7.3.5 wouldn't recognize it sometimes, other times it was recognized but initialization failed) so I bought a new-to-me Quantum ProDrive 230. This one initialized and tested OK, but gave errors when copying files to it. After about 10 minutes the drive was corrupted and needed to be initialized.

However, I installed the drive in my IIsi and it initialized and tested fine, and I was able to copy 80 Meg to it.

Has anyone seen this behavior before where a drive fails in one machine but is fine in another? Is it that the drive is fine but my Quadra is hosed?

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Check the voltage on the power harness on both the other board and hard drive connector. Red should be +5V and Orange/Yellow should be +12V.

Yes, certainly wouldn't rule out capacitor issues, although in all fairness the Quantum drives are well past their useful life and they are on borrowed time.  It is common to see these drives be in varying stages of failure despite being better drives than others at the time.  The drive could have an intermittent issue or there is a hardware problem with your machine.
