PowerTower Pro - Startup monitor lag

Hi everyone,

Wasn't sure where to put this since there didn't seem to be a clones forum...

My PT Pro works just fine, but upon startup I get the startup chime and then a black screen for about a minute before the screen illuminates and the startup proceeds. However, if I restart it right after the initial startup chime, the screen comes right on.

I know that this is usually an issue with the battery, but I have replaced it and it works, because the time holds no matter what, even if the machine is unplugged. Unsure what causes it otherwise. Could it be the PCI video card that I am using?

Most likely it's doing the ram test on cold boot. It can take a while particularly if it has a fair amount of ram (think 128MB+)

What Compgeke said.   That's a normal difference between a hot reboot and a cold boot.   It's not a problem with your battery.

If the monitor was not coming on until the machine was well into the boot process, like, doesn't light up until extensions are loading, then that could be a video card issue.  That would suggest that the video card is a PC card hacked to work in a Mac and the hacker used a crumby reduced size firmware  load that doesn't know how to startup, instead of taking a moment to install a larger Flash chip on the video card that can hold the full firmware.   But that doesn't sound like what's happening.

I have the same issue with a Wallstreet with maxed out RAM. Waiting almost a full minute for the screen to light up after the boot chime is disconcerting but it works.

You guys are likely right, I realized it does have a fair amount of RAM, as well as a G3 card installed. Likely part of it as well. Thanks!
