PowerMac G4 Yikes! IDE cableing

Hi:

So I have a PowerMac G4 'Yikes!'. I replced the DVD-ROM with one that can read DVD-R disks. I have a Zip 100 drive installed. The problem is it will no longer boot, the monitor does not power on but I do hear the startup chime. If I have either the Zip 100 or DVD-ROM installed it works but not when they are installed togeather. I think I have the jumpers set correct. Any thoughts?

Hi Jamie,

you'll need to adjust the master/slave jumpers on your IDE devices - they are both probably set to slave at the moment.  The device at the very end of the IDE cable should be set to master and the middle drive slave.

I'm busy at the moment but I'll try changing the jumpers later. (I may not get too it till Sunday)

It was indeed a jumper problem. I had to get some help getting the try with the drives out. Thanks to my DVD-ROM upgrade I can now boot a PowerPC Ubuntu Live CD. :)
