PowerBook G4 No Sound

Hi yet again...

Here's an interesting issue with my G4. No sound at all. No boot sound. Nothing.

Reinstalled OS. No change. Nothing is muted. Sound is on... Internal speakers set as device in the sound panel. Microphone works. Aux out works. Just no sound from the speakers.

I've reset pram and all that multiple times.

Ideas?

Is the internal speaker plugged in properly?

Depending on the model, there is a cable going to the logic board that can come loose.

Everything seems to be good. It's an early 667 model. None of that stuff mounted to the bottom cover.

Just reset the PMU. No change

When headphones are eplugged in, they work fine and the audio image changes to headphones. When unplugged they switch to the speakers. So... The headphone jack is not stuck.

Found a hardware test disc I. The back of the CD carrier it came with. Everything tested good... Does that rule out a logic board issue?

Without the older, Apple confidential docs to determine problems with AHT, it's hard to say if AHT passing means much. The same goes for AHT failing, since some of the test processes it runs require manual intervention and without documentation, it's hard to say how to get them to pass.

For what it's worth, I haven't heard of problems with PowerBook G4 speakers being problematic. If this isn't an issue that just started happening, you could be running into just a problem with that particular model. And maybe it's just an area where you'll have to pair it with a sweet portable speaker, they still sell those with the disco lights and goofy things last I checked.
