Powerbook Duo 2300c

got this monster i dug out of a box, missing lots of stuff, but i forget if the mobo was any good or not. What is the pinout of the DC jack? thanks.

The pinout is the same as all the Duos and PowerBooks that use a "stereo headphone" plug.

Tip - serial data for intelligent PSU, n.c. for other PSUs

Ring - Common negative

Sleeve - +24V DC power

Outer shield - Shield (not needed for basic operation)

A 6.5mm stereo headphone jack will fit, but won't line up with the internal contacts. To correct this, I have heard that all you need is a small rubber grommet around the base of the jack.

Tip, ring and sleeve are the three areas of metal on the jack itself, counting from the tip back to the base. The outer sleeve on the genuine Powerbook PS is, as stated above, not needed.

Basically, ANYTHING in the way of a PowerBook AC/Adapter connector manufactured after the Duos will work with the single exception of the idiotic choice Apple made for the 5300's power connector. Contrary to their normal (?) mode of behavior, Apple actually admitted their error and reverted to using a connector from the past that had actually worked.

Apple has used the Duo Spec connector on all PowerBooks thru, I'm not sure which model . . . :?:

. . . but since the Duo connector is thicker than a PowerBook Air, I'd imagine they came up with something else that (hopefully) worked, somewhere along the line . . . at around the G-4 era. [;)] ]'>

Apple made a huge mistake on the engineering of the plugs for the PowerBook 100's AC Adapter. If the tip of your 100's powerplug got chipped on insertion into the receptacle . . . ZAP!!!!!!!!!! [:O] ]'> Fried Mobo! Which was dutifully replaced along with the Power Adapter, under an unannounced extended warranty, for years after the PB 100's warranties had run out.

That surprised me, and was very good customer service, which I would have never expected from Apple.

On the Duos (or was it the PB 100? :?: ) this was actually the ADB Data Line, which allowed for some very interesting possibilities in terms of peripherals development. Dunno what they used it for on the later PBs, but it was an elegant arrangement . . .

. . . on the PB 100/Duos/whatever it was. [:o)] ]'>
