Power Mac G4 MDD Cooling

I recently bought a powermac G4 mdd and i am trying to make it run cooler the specs are

10.5.8 leopard

dual 1GHZ

1.75GB ram

Dual Super drives

HDS

250gb

120gb

10gb

NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600

PCI CARDS

belkin usb 2.0 card

firewire 800 pci card

cooler pci card

i am worried the power supply is gona die like other mdd's i have seen is there anything i can do to make it run cooler AKA DIRECT ME TO A WEB SITE THAT I CAN BUY SOME FASTER FANS FOR THE MDD'S POWER SUPPLY?

The power supply won't have issues unless you have an ADC display. The trickle power for the power button on it heats up the power supply but if the unit is off, the fans don't spin. You have to kill the power to the power supply if you use such a display if you shut it off or sleep it. Both my dual 1ghz MDD's run 60 degrees on the CPU, I never sleep or shut them off and they keep chugging. The one that's been running longer has 4 hard drives and a 9800 Pro video card as well. By the looks of your pictures you're going way overboard. The best thing you should do is add two small fans in the front hard drives and zip tie two more behind the CPU between it and the casing. The ones in the front should pull air in and the ones on the back should pull air out.

mine has been running for about 8 hours and it is at 125F according to istats menu is that a ok temp? and i do not use a adc monitor i use a 22 inch dvi display by acer

Hmmm. I have iStat running on both the DP MDD (1.42) and the Intel iMac. The MDD shows a CPU temp of 73125f (no decimal point); there's either a problem with the installation or there should be a decimal point? The iMac shows 109f, ie, normal. Anyone have any thoughts?

ok i did what you said about adding h fans behind the processor just finished hahahah took a long time and now the mdd's door doesnt shut right! i have to kinda slam it to get it shut and then when i pull the release lever it makes a snapping noise like there is something in the way or the door ? but their isnt.

How come your video card has so much extra unused board space at the end of it? That's really strange.

If there's no electronics or anything right there, you could probably cut off some of it and improve airflow.

It is not that strange. The case was actually designed to accommodate full size cards because they're not incredibly uncommon.

thats actually the fastest NVIDIA graphics ADC graphics card i paid a lot for it im scared to touch it lol!

all im worried about is the power supply heating up on the (400wat AC Bel) power supply fans in it i took out and cleaned the power supply so it is squeaky clean. i guess they just run hot when i put my hand in the back were the power supply vent is i feel very little air compared to my quicksilver and so on and the air that does come out is really hot i

Except why would they make a video card with unused space? Look at the actual card. The last 1/3rd of it is completely unused green space.

its because they knew people were gona be opening theese machines a lot so even if they would have cut it off right at the end of the board it would be unstable (LOOK AT PICTURE 3) it fits into a groove in the left to support the card.

Unstable? its jsut an agp card with a dinky small heatsink, I havent seen a full length card in a LONG time, probally back in the voodoo days, even my GTS250 isnt that long and its heatsink sucks up an extra slot (as big as your face!)

And pc makers havent included those grooves since who knows when, I know its a cold day if I see those full length card holders in a ATX case, and even with my old AT cases it was pretty rare

Yes it is a good card. The fan and HS are good size for the chip it has to cool. Good to hear it runs cool as well. You can extend its life by blowing out with some are to remove built up dust in the fan fins.

Voodoo was the name of a PCI card designed by 3fdx to crunch 3D for games. They were the ones who actually invented SLI. You could get 2 Voodoo2 card (mine has 12MB per card) SLI them together for even more triangle / polygon pumping goodness and then feed the input from your primary video card into and feed the whole mess out to you screen.

Um cheif, 3dfx cards were in G4 mac's (notibly the voodoo 5) and I dont care if it has a fan on it or not, point was that there is no reason for that to be a full sized card, I used a comparison of my wifes card which had a GIGANTIC heat sink on it, and the fact it doesnt make it to the back of the case, stability is not the issue here

and FYI noone was insulting (your average card from 6 years ago) so get over it and quit getting your panties in a twist

well if you had read I said that was the last full length card I have seen, cause the question of WTH is up with that full length geforce 4 card, becuase thats odd

back to the subject on hand, cooling is quite easy, instead of ziptied fans in all sorts of random locations, isolate the hottest part and put a fan on it!
