MDD -12V, is it really needed?

I’m replacing the stock MDD power supply, and noticed the latest ATX options don’t supply -12v. I realize this runs to the PCI and possibly modem, but in practice is this power bus actually used? I am using a g-port clone serial port, not sure if there is a boost converter…
