Hum, if I remember correctly, there is a bug in Classic Mac OS - PCI USB busses don't appear properly in System Profiler unless something is connected? Nor do FireWire busses.

In my experience, you are correct about FireWire buses. But the USB bus does show up even with nothing connected.
