Poor Man's TechStep: Maxa Snooper Card & Software

I just got a Maxa Snooper Card with software, dongles, manuals, etc.  Complete set.  Not as cool as an Apple TechStep, but it'll work fine for troubleshooting any NuBUS Mac.

I also got Ultima III for Macintosh.  The original B&W Macintosh version, not the color shareware version.  It'll look great next to my Apple II versions of the game.

I've been thinking of getting an Ultima game for my Performa. 6, 7, or 8 most likely.

Nice! I've really been meaning to go back and play The Ultima series. Bards Tale is on that list, too. I wonder if I still have 15 year old me's hand drawn maps and notes!

They stopped releasing Ultima games on the Apple at Ultima V.  Ultima VI and onward were PC only.

Kinda sad considering the game debuted on the Apple II.  Only Ultima II and III were released for Macintosh, no other versions.

I don't mind, though, as I consider Ultimas III, IV, and V to be the apex of the Ultima series.

That's a shame, I liked 6, 7, and 8. They had pretty solid stories.

Ultima VI saw an 8-bit release on the C64. It kinda made Origin's excuse that the Apple II couldn't handle it...... hard to believe.

Nuts.  My Ultima III disk is old enough that it actually has copy protection.

I really want to back up this disk, it's pretty rare.

It's expensive, but Kryoflux can copy that disk probably. Have you looked into it?

EDIT: Just checked, and it's not as expensive as I thought. 97.95 Euros (USD $110) for the basic, bring-your-own-cables model.

I've had little success getting any support for the Kyroflux when it coms to anything Macintosh.  They seem to be focused on Commodore/Amiga & DOS only.

I tried Copy II Mac, and that worked.  It was able to make a duplicate of my disk, including the copy protection.

I'm going to try Copy II HD next, see if I can't make a non-copy protected copy so I can make a disk image.
