Picked up 2 Mac IIci machines on CL

$50 for both

One of them just clicks from the PSU when I plug it in.

The other clicks quietly and flashes the light on the front of the case but starts up after a few button pushes.

Both of them show some logic board gunk so they will need recaps.

Do I need to find new Power supplies or can they be fixed? Do you even think it's the PSU? The last IIci I had was in 1993 so I just don't know.

Thanks

This is what they looked like before cleaning

With the IIcis, you will have to get the motherboards recapped. I have gotten FIVE of them for the cards, & parts, and they all had the same problem. You can easily see the goo around the same caps.

The power supplies luckily are more tank like.

re:Plus, the solder joints might need a little TLC, others can chime in with better knowledge on the needed help.

Yea, those IIcis were nasty. Maybe I'll try and recap one myself. If I botch it, I still have the other one I can send out.

I may make the plus a project, It needs some Retr0bright as well. I picked it up for $30 with a working SCSI 20SC, mouse, keyboard and an ImageWriter.

Iici recaps look easy enough if you are good with a solder iron. Here are the locations.

That Plus package is a nice bargain, those SC HD boxes are too expensive on eBay, hence why I still dont have one even though its on the want list.
