Personal Laserwriter NT - Blank Page from Cassette

All,

I have the somewhat famous/somewhat obscure issue with the blank page(s) printing from the cassette. One page will print, the page will be blank, and no further pages print until the printer toner door is opened/closed. All pages are blank from the cassette, but printing is normal from the multifunction/manual-feed tray.

Does anyone have any idea what can be done?  I know that fixyourownprinter used to have a kit for exactly this issue, but they no longer appear to sell them (or anything else).

I appreciate any help - this printer is mint, otherwise.

I'd try replacing the pickup rollers and separation pad. Its likely the issue the no-longer available kit fixed.

This kit appears to be NLA too: http://www.printerworks.com/Catalogs/RollerKits/LX-RK_RollerKit.html

Parts are going to be hard to come by for these older units, they weren't very reliable to begin with as LX printers tended to blow up power supplies on a regular basis (that "dead fish" smell they make is something you'll never forget!). The cassette was an optional unit on these machines, stock configurations used the MF tray by default. It looks messy, but that is how HP and Apple sold them new.

Thank you for your help - it may well be the rollers, but the blank pages from the cassette (the one that does actually go through) is always blank.  I guess the printer knows something is up with the feed?

I'll be on the look out for LX parts.  I was totally unaware that I could use them on the Laserwriter.  I guess the print engines use interchangeable parts (in most cases).

Are you sure the paper is coming from the cassette? Sure its not defaulting to another source? Maybe a silly question, I have not touched an NT is decades. But my Phasers will override my choice is there is no paper is the slot I specify.

It may not be related but the Laserwriter NT, IIF, IIG have surface mount capacitors that need replacing now.. Also a few axial ones as well.. Then I recap the ones in the DC Power Supply... I usually find they all have leaked... Just something you will want to do anyway..

Whoops... you said a personal laserwriter NT... I was talking about the Laserwriter II's..
