PDS Dos Card in a Quadra 950 - any success?

Hi guys,

I was just wondering - has anyone been successful in getting a PDS Dos Card (such as the one that came with the PowerMac 6100/DOS) to work in a Quadra 950? A quick Google search comes up with a few suggestions that it should work, but I don't see any confirmed successes.

I'm currently playing around with such a setup, but I'm running into some problems, so I thought I'd spare myself the lost hours and see if there's something I ought to know about the possibility of this working.

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm currently fantasizing about having my Q950 running 3 processors - the built-in 68040, a Radius Rocket and the DOS card. Here's to the crazy ones, indeed!

Yes. I used the card from a 6100, the medusa cable, and the internal video. For some reason, it would not work with the SuperMac video card that I had at the time.

That's great to know! One of the issues I ran into last night was that, when chained to my Radius PrecisionColor 24XK card, my display (an already finicky) 15" Gateway LCD has a terribly wobbly, swimmy image. It really doesn't like that "medusa cable" (great name, BTW!).

It's good to know that I'm not facing an insurmountable challenge - thanks for chiming in! One other question - I've seen a number of pages that suggest using PC Setup 1.5 with this particular card, but the only one I found was PC Setup 1.6.3 (IIRC), which claims that my Dos card isn't actually installed (when it is). Perhaps I should 'downgrade' to that earlier version of PC Setup?

heh. It would be more fun to use the Radius Rocket in a Power Mac 7100 along with a DOS card. Then you could not only have three processors, but three different architecture processors... :-D

It has been a good long time since I had that

setup, so I'm not certain of the version number of the PC Setup control panel. It's also worth noting that I was *probably* using it under System 7.1 (since I have a particular affinity for that version of the System Software).

One way of obtaining older control panels though is to rummage through the installation tomes from the various system software and system software updates on Apple's older software downloads page.

My apologies for not being more specific. The DOS card was just one of those 'I've done it, now what?' projects.

That's... awesome....

You raise a great point - I'm trying to do this on my System 7.6 drive - maybe PC Setup will be happier on 7.1. I'll give that a try tonight!

The DOS cards wont fit the 7100 and 8100 because of the PDS adapter. meh they would fit, but they´d block all NUBUS slots ;)

Actually, I've got one of the Reply DOS-on-Mac cards that would go into one of the x100 PowerMacs. I bought it years ago for my PM7100/G3, but wasn't ever able to get it working happily with my Sonnet G3 upgrade. If any of you are interested in buying or trading for the Reply card, let me know!
