PB190 Hinge Cover Plastics Separating

MattB

I've got a PB190, and unfortunately the right side hinge cover on the screen side has decided to separate. The lid will still open and close, but it puts more stress on the plastics and with how brittle these are known to be I'd like to fix it before it gets worse. Pictures are attached...what's the best way to repair something like this? I disassembled the machine to the point where I could access the piece in question, but I can't figure out the best way to actually fix it.

Remove the left and right badges.

IIRC, screws are hidden underneath.

Also remove the top rubber plugs on top, same story.

I found some new old stock replacement screen plastics for sale but they’re from a 190cs. As the top cover seems to have failed on mine, would I be able to install one from a 190cs on mine? I know the front screen plastics won’t work due to screen size differences. Or am I just better off buying a dead 190cs and doing a screen transplant?

I'm a major proponent of keeping as many PartsBooks on hand as is practical to store them.

NB: to avoid "Vinegar Syndrome," I'm now storing mine partway open lid to lid/bottom to bottom on bookshelves for ventilation to avoid that dreaded patchiness of the LCD's UV film. No LCD inside: mine go into boxes.

Good advice. I generally keep mine open as well when possible. The screen on my 190 is in great shape, the plastics are just separating at the hinges.
