Got this little gem recently! I do love my SEs.
It’s a true 1987-built Macintosh SE! All original except for the hard drive I think. Because it’s a non-Apple branded Miniscribe. Being an early SE I strongly suspect it had a Rodime drive originally, which I actually have one of and might put in here! It’s currently in my 1988 SE (which you can see in the background), so I may just swap the drives on them.
It has this notorious fan also…
My honest opinion of this fan? I hate it! It’s absolutely terrible. It makes a very loud and unsettling sound, and creates a very noticeable “wobble” to the image on the CRT! It’s damn near impossible to clean also, and the blades are VERY fragile.
It looks really neat though, and I thought I would like it, but the sound is absolutely repulsive! It’s NOT a good kind of noisy like the lovely Miniscribe drives in these. It makes the stock fan in my 1988 SE seem silent by comparison!
I’m actually going to be replacing it with the newer style fan, as much as I hate to.
Nonetheless, I still absolutely love this machine, even if it is functionally just like my other SE. it’s actually less yellowed than my other too. And it does have the original revision metal frame, which is slightly different.
Of course, it worked right away and needed absolutely no repairs. What a great machine the SE is!
