PB G4 (A1106) PSUs

Hi guys and gals,

I have been given a present of a PB G4. The number on the back is A1106, which seems to make it a 2005 15" Alumin(i)um 1.5MHz or 1.67MHz PowerBook. It came as is, the battery is empty or dead and I have no PSU for it. My expertise in Macs ends extends no longer than about 2002.

What PSU am I to look out for? It seems that I need a 65W one, but which one, I'm not sure. Would the PSU from an iBook do? Would the PSU from another PB G4 do? Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

aa

Mactracker says that A1106 has the "65 W Apple Portable Power Adapter". If I take one of mine as example (PowerBook G4 17-inch 1.33 Ghz 2003; A1052), it also says "65 W Apple Portable Power Adapter".

Shouldn't be that hard to find one.

Also found this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1335235

Btw, my mom's PowerBook G4 came with something like this (haven't checked if this would be the right alternative model): https://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/computer-und-netzwerk/apple/zubehoer/65w-ladekabel-netzteil-f-apple-g4/v/an765140810/

All I can say is: (black) power cable broken (bad plastic quality), strange "buzzing" noise, charging for some seconds/not charging anymore all the time.

Solution: Found an original one in the e-waste, works perfectly, happy to have thrown away the other crap. :)

Cheers,

Nicolas

45W iBook charger will work fine, but it will charge the battery slowly.  For long-term use I'd get the 65W model though, and the aftermarket eBay ones are pretty good (considering the Apple ones do fail a lot ...)

Hi again

AA's G4 would boot with the 65W charger, but seems to have some LCD issues. I've taken some pics and filmed it.
