old one and a new one :D (pc related)

last thanksgiving I was given a couple toshiba laptops by my uncle, he said neither one powered up... so i took them home, and pretty much let them sit there until a week or so ago (busy w/ other things at the time) started taking bits off one of them in the mean time (ram here, a hd there, etc..)

finally got around to actually testing it, no power, examine power jack, resolder connections, still no power, test w/ meter, a trace was broken on the circuit board... make a jumper wire, plug in, IT LIVES!!! so I got a Satellite A75 (3.06 P4 w/HT, 512mb ram (soon to be 1.5G) and a 20GB ( the original 60 got transplanted to another machine) for pretty much free :)

the new one is another satellite, bought from a classmate for $30 since "i can't get it to load windows 7"...all i had to do was put in my usb drive w/ linux and it loaded right up :) turns out it can also be upgraded :D (originally a celeron 530M, now a 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo) (even the battery is good!) had 2.5gb of ram (soon to be 4gb) and a 160GB Hard drive...

I always love it when I get things for free or almost free that need little or no repair... So are you gonna put them both into use yourself, or flip them and make some cash?

probably use myself, I like the older machines, just seem more solid than new ones, and I like that they're quick enough for 99.9% of what i do anyway (youtube,etc...) (plus the P4 has an amazing display (not the most high-res, but the color depth is like an ibook clamshell) :D )
