No Happy Apple For My iBook

Finally got around to putting in the stripy insert I bought from iColours to customize my iBook G3 600. Alas, I was only able to get one of the screws out to open up the lid. The other 3 seem to have had the holes in their heads stripped, and I couldn't get them out.

Wonder if it would be worth heading to the local Mac repair place to see if they can help, or cost too much. Not as if it's actually necessary.

sometimes you can pull or angle and pull on cases while trying to back the screw out, effectively pinching it enough so it can unscrew

Well, since my reason for doing it is frivolous, I don't want to do anything drastic. I think the only way to get them out would be with a teeny-weeny drill.

I asked at the closest Mac emporium and they said it would probably be at least a 1 hour service charge minimum, including digging through the old screw pile to find some unstripped ones to replace the unfriendly ones. It's not the threads, it's the socket where the Torx grabs it that's become smooth and round instead of angled and edgy.

if you have a plastic coat hanger you can clip a piece off of it, cut it down to size, melt the end abit and let it cool while pressing on the screw head

basically making a custom screwdriver (works kinda well on security screws too)

Just get one of those damaged screw remover kits. Once you have the screw out, use a dremel to give it a slot across the top of the head so you can use a regular old flat head screw driver for those screws.
