Or so it would seem. Anyone looking to complete their 128K showcase can pick up the danapplemacman's original boxed MacWrite/MacPaint collectable for $249! And it's not even Christmas!

It appears to be a nice clean collectable. Ask questions before you buy as there appear to be some discrepancies. Dan shows a Finder 1.1g screenshot, but only offers two disks in the package* containing software versions 1.0 of each of MW/MP. However, the disks containing MW/MP 1.0 would have also shipped with System 1.0. – System 1.1 came with MW/MP 2.2/1.3. So it's likely these are not the original disks, but system upgraded original disks. In addition he shows manuals dated 1983 (MP) and 1984 (MW). However the original MacWrite manual was also dated 1983. The 1984 manual shipped with the System 1.1 package. Also, *the System 1.1 package came with two additional disks Dan does not include: a separate MacPaint and MacWrite disk.

So whatever is going on here, it is not a complete original package from either the January or April release, but a hybrid of sorts (still prior to the combined September release which eliminated the separate box). Nevertheless, it is certainly somewhat rare and collectable. Only you can decide it's value.

And folks, don't forget... it's "RARE"!!!! xx(
Exactly, which is why you can save yourself US $149.00 if you don't have to have the manuals. As implied by robert2d3d 's evidently less rare simultaneous auction, the manuals are evidently worth about that much. Then again, Robert's auction does not go into as much detail as Dan's, a point Dan routinely makes about the merchandise he offers as being thoroughly vetted over other sellers (Dan's words not mine). However, as with any seller, that does not absolve the buyer from asking all intelligent questions to assure they are getting what they think they are. Or, if you don't care if your manuals are pre-packaged, you could just hop over to amazon and by MacWrite and MacPaint for a combined total of less than US $55.00. And of course they turn up all the time on eBay and elsewhere for these prices or less. I suppose patience is more than a virtue in this case.

In a related auction offered by danapplemacman, you may want to supplement your MacWrite/MacPaint boxed set with Cary Lu's original RARE "The Apple Macintosh Book" complete with pre-release illustrations of the prototype Macintosh, for ONLY US $99. Or, you could go to Amazon, alibris, or other online used book sellers and pick up one of the many available copies for under 99 cents! I picked up my 1st edition copy from Amazon for about US $4.00 including shipping.

I am of the opinion that everything Dan sells in his shop is overpriced.
Yea, I feel the same. The thing is the stuff I have that I got for next to nothing seems to have gone up in price quite a bit lately. You can still find some old and rare items dirt cheap (look at the conquest section on this forum). I have no idea if this Mac inflation is real or a bubble.

But lest this seller come back here, threaten our moderators and yet again have another thread pulled, I shall hereby praise Dan by saying that he takes a lot of photos, especially closeups. And most of you know how much I myself love photos. I really do. Of course, Dan needs to use a better lens or zoom in more to kill that nasty barrel distortion, but that is a minor complaint. So when you buy from Dan, keep in mind the cost of his photos are included. :-*

What puzzles me, as an eBay seller myself, is how these sellers keep on re-listing the same highly priced items - I looked at completed listings, and it seems most of them don't sell. So do these sellers just keep on re-listing repeatedly?
