I picked up a few things. first:
2x 512MB PC-133 Memory. I have bumped my Dual G4 500Mhz Sawtooth from 1GB up to 1.5GB after replacing the 2x 256MB with dual 512, and kept the original 512MB Sticks in it. I have 10.4.11 on the system and it flies quite nicely. Really quick and have had no problems.
Second. One of my dad's friends (and my client) came to me with 3 Dell XPS Systems. All three have had their PSU's removed, 2 of them have had their RAM Removed, and 2 of them had their HDDs removed. Anyways, They are Pentium IV HT 3.2Ghz Systems
I spread out the 2x 512MB PC-3200 RAM among the systems and got two of them after modding the power supply I have (Which is on it's last legs. It has lost some of the connectors, and the board is charred from a recent burnout. For some reason it keeps going )
The specs are:
Pentium IV 3.2Ghz w/ HT. The computer came with the option of Pentium D CPUs
one system came with 3.5GB DDR-3200 RAM. I spread it out into Two systems.
20GB HDD in one of them
Gigabit Ethernet Onboard.
5-SATA Ports, w/ JBoD and RAID 1/0/1+0 Setups
CD-ROMs (yeah, they went cheap)
PCI-e 8-lane Geforce 7600GT 320MB (256 onboard, 128MB Shared)
Intel GMA915 chipset
3x PCI-X (133Mhz) PCI Slots. Great for extra video cards/Fiber/whatever
supposed to have come with a 500Watt PSU. Got 3 on order
have a few 40GB HDDs on order.
So what did I get?
I got one of the systems. I ordered a 1GB Stick for myself. Gonna make it fly
I *Could* get a Pentium D Processor for mine, but I would rather have the HT System. It's not worth spending $130 on a CPU that is less powerful than my AMD x2 64-bit 3600+ 1.9GHz system behind me. So it's gonna stay like it is
It will be nice. It can take Leopard on it!!! yay!!!
Anyways, I will probably either leave XP Pro on it, or I will put Vista on it. two of them have 2k Licenses, the other (mine) has XP Pro on it.
I told them I would knock $50 off the bill ($275 for the system and parts put together and setup) and would get two systems made up.
My client found them in a dumpster behind a business that moved. The business threw out 40 of them, but the truck hauled the others away the week before. The business kept the HDDs and threw the power supplies out 2 weeks before that. The power supplies for these cost $140 from dell (and on eBay) but I scored myself a $60 used one on eBay. All three PSUs as well as the memory and HDDs should be here next week.
Sweet Score or what?!?!
