Network Connection to Leopard or Lion?

Hi everyone... my first post

I've been following the boards for a while now and thoroughly enjoy reading about Compact Macs...my new hobby. I've been a Mac user since 2002 (iMac G4), but my Apple days go back to 1995 if you count my Newton MP 110 and then a MP 2000 in 1997. Since then, lot's more...my wife thinks I'm a nut!

I recently purchased a Mac Plus running 6.0.8, 4MB ram with a SCSI Zip and after reading the back posts for about three solid weeks and many, many attempts have successfully networked it via a Keyspan USA28X adapter (using MacPPP and MacTCP) to the G4 running 10.3 -- Thanks for the great advice!! Through Fetch, the Plus is able to connect (through the G4) to the home network that includes a MacBook Pro, iMac and an external HD. I just bought an Asante Mini EN/SC, but still looking for the right SCSI cable. A future project.

So here's my immediate problem. I'd love to use the Keyspan adapter to connect directly to the MacBook and put the G4 back in storage, but cannot figure out the proper TCP/IP settings on both ends to make that happen. I use the Plus to prepare a few monthly reports (I'm an aviation noise consultant) and then move the file over to the MacBook for formatting. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Everyone.... a quick update.

Success!!

I wasn't able to figure out the serial connection issue, but after hooking up the Asante mini en/sc through a Netgear ethernet hub (EN104TP) everything fell into place. I loaded the Asante driver, appleshare and network control panel, figured out the MacTCP settings and now my Plus is connected to the internet. I can browse a few sites via MacWWW and can use Fetch to transfer files between my other networked Macs as well as download files from FTP servers. Also, after downgrading my G4 to OSX 10.2, I was able to get AppleTalk working.

The amount of info on this forum is just amazing. Thanks!

Glad it worked out! I know I've written some stuff in these forums about getting the Macintosh Plus (and others) connected hoping it would get handy for people :)

I'm going to write a bigger howto some day, just need recapping my Plus first I think..

Yup, 10.2 was the last version that could share files under pure AppleTalk. After 10.2, AppleTalk was for printing only, until 10.6 when it was completely removed.
