my Mystic died

This is a very very sad day. The HD in my Mystic appears to be kaput. I came in after the weekend to see it at a black screen, with the drive alternately spinning up and down every couple seconds. I tried to reboot and was rewarded with the blinking ? disk icon. I have some spare drives but it is going to be awhile until I have free time to spend rebuilding this system. For now I'll pack it back in its box to preserve it better.

I am sorry to hear it also. But why not seize the moment? The task will become greater (in seeming magnitude) the longer you leave it.

In the last few days I have overhauled/re-cleaned/serviced and re-dedicated four CCs. It wasn't a long task before, but I can have the logic board out (which it is best to do before attacking the HDD) in under a minute after laying a CC face-down on a firm flat cushion. Another two minutes or less (depending on the firmness of its sled in its tracks) to remove the HDD.

Then, because you were canny enough to prepare the new HDD beforehand in another Mac, or an external enclosure, reassembly can be complete within another five minutes. Voilà! All done, and no longer is the task an albatross about your neck.

Go gettim, Tiger.
