MP2000 rubber stripping

Hello everyone,

I finally got my hands on a MessagePad 2000 that has typical degradation of the rubber coating and is becoming a bit sticky. I've seen many here and elsewhere recommend isopropyl alcohol to strip it, but for those who have tried it, does it strip the Newton logo and model text off the front as well, or can you save if it you're careful enough? I've searched around a bit and haven't heard any mention of it after the fact, but it's not too advanced so I'm on the fence, I've also seen mica powder and other treatments to the existing coating discussed here as well but since there's already a big section of bare plastic on the front cover I'm not sure if it'd be as good of a solution in my case.

If anyone's tried it and can confirm either way, I'd appreciate it!

The powders (talcum, cornflour etc) can reduce the stickiness but it will come back eventually.

I've found you have to be quite aggressive rubbing off the sticky parts with warm soapy water (and ideally a microfibre cloth), this comes after you have let the parts soak in citric-based "goo gone" cleaners to dislodge most of the sticky glue then IPA as a second pass to the remove final thin layer. In terms of keeping the logo/silkscreening, yes it can be saved but be gentle not much rubbing try to remove most with your fingernail and then just use IPA (or citric goo gone - whatever you are more confident using), multiple thin applications.
