My wife out of town for a few days and returned with an HP Pavilion 533w.

2ghz Celeron

768 MB RAM (1x512MB, 1x256MB)

DVD Combo drive

60 GB hard disk

Motherboard with bad capacitors (oh well - no AGP slot anyway)

Working P4 power supply

While it won't boot on its own I should be able to get the P4 2.53ghz system I found to work now that I have enough parts.

That's a pretty broad statement considering how many different architectures have been sold under the Celeron name.

For the past few years, Celerons have been excellent budget processors.

I second that. Not a fan of the original Celeron but lately they have been much better chips. I know a lot of people whose opinions of the line have been shaped by the 1990s model of the chip. I was like that myself until I got the chance to try out some new Celeron chips over the past year.

Personally, I think Apple should consider a low-end chip similar to the Celeron for some of the low-end models (like the Mac mini). It would help to keep the costs down and wouldn't hurt low-end users who use their computers for word processing and e-mail.

I have tried a 3.06ghz celeron and it was pertty nice. However it had more L2 cache than this one does.

I don't really have a use for this chip yet - the machine the parts are destined for has a P4 already so I'll put it in my stash for later.
