A good catch, even without a working PSU. My dual 1GHz is a fine machine, and plenty fast enough for all but the number-crunchingest needs. My MDD cost six times (in AUD) as much as yours, and blew its PSU six weeks later. It's up and running again with one of two NOS 400W PSUs that I was able to get (and switch out the dual fans with the dead 360W PSU). Its only contra-indication now is that Temperature Monitor shows the CPU board as equilibrating at 55.8°C rather than the 38° shown by my wife's 1.25GHz MDD single-processor Mac.
However, given my subsequent acquisition of a copper heatsink for the MDD, installation of Apple's CHUD 3.5.2 (supporting Nap Mode for DP MDDs), and a liddle fiddle with the control-point integers in the info.plist of AppleFan.kext (10.4.11), the equilibrium point for the CPU board is now 36° (29° ambient) or 41° (32° ambient). The main (Papst) fan now scarcely breaks into a trot.
