magma pci expansion chassis .. pci host cards?

after having posted this unrelated random find https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/eu-ebay-finds-thread.37466/page-50#post-556393 I had to think a bit again about having looked online a bit there and there on the web ever since friday with regarding to magma pci's..
does anyone know if theres any way to determine specifically which magma pci host card are which or its likely more of a "well they're quite cheap so buy a few different ones to find the one that actually works for you?" blindish find game instead?

I mean when I have looked up what archived production reviews/descriptions I could find so far - one would mention at least osx 10.4 was required and another would mention macos9 then yet another one just simply said "mac os, mac os x" etc, but they all never ever quote the actual product # at any point

I think the PCI ones are mostly the same if the pinout matches your chassis. I believe they use an ultra SCSI cable for the connection. Love to hear if you get one working on a Mac.

thanks @Byrd theres a few references in general on the 'ducky' avid forum and even one digidesign pci chassis mentioned on os9lives so the mac support indeed seem to be out there .. and yeah if I somehow end up buy a chassis kit for some reason then I'll happily post about it in here

I've looked at the Magma range for years and dreamt of loading one up with 3DFX Voodoo cards, sound cards, etc, however am yet to find anyone good report that says they actually work well in a Mac. One day though I'll see one cheap and pounce.

I have a PCIe expansion chassis connected to my Power Mac 8600 or B&W G3.

It's a Netstor NA255A with four PCIe gen 3 x8 slots.
A nvramrc script is needed to probe device IDs ≥ 0x10 (downstream bridges of the PCIe switch).

I installed a Nvidia 7800 GT from my Quad G5 with a modified Open Firmware ROM that works on New World and Old World Macs.

My Power Mac 8600 occasionally hangs so it's maybe not the best test platform.

I can maybe use this setup to test NVMe, XHCI, Thunderbolt, etc but I haven't done much more than make sure that PCIe devices are detected.
