Macintosh SE FDHD, Floppy Drive acting strange!

it keeps saying floppy disk is unreadable, but no disk is in the drive,

what do you think the issue is,

maybe a sensor?

Put a hard drive in it, disconnect the internal FDD from its cable. If you have an external FDD, you could try that too.

Boot the computer, and if it returns then it is a logic board fault. While you're in there flip the HDD slot cover around.

i disconnect the floppy , and it works just like normal, boots from the hard drive, etc,,,

so i pulled the floppy and tested it in my LC II and the floppy drive works just fine in the LC, no funny business,

so the issue must be with the IWM or maybe a cap?

next thing to try is a external floppy but all i have is a 5 1/4 drive from my 1984 apple ][e

You must have a bad floppy controller.

I don't know anything beyond that.

The 5.25" drive will _not_ work. They are electrically incompatible.

Try again in the SE, probably one of the front sensors is stuck (you should have 2 on the right and one in the left)

The floppy drive is detecting a disk, but nothing present, so my guess is that one of the sensors is pushed down.

I had the same problem and solved it with a contact cleaner.

well this is what i did to fix my issue,

i am not happy about these ether,

but it was the only way to get this FDHD the way i wanted it (100% Correct)

i have also have a Macintosh SE Dual 800K, the only issue with that is the Rear Video Board was bad, other then that it was 100% both 800k drives

i took apart and re adjusted and lubed, upgraded it with 4mb ram etc, it was ready for a video board and it would have been great...

so against my better judgment, i Pulled apart the FDHD and the SE, Put the ROM and Floppy controller chips from the FDHD to the SE board, put the se board in the FDHD put the FDHD all back together,

and Wala my FDHD is now flawless, works just fine! super drive and all!

however, my poor se now, i popped the SE chips into the bad FDHD board, and now the screen is not only messed up from the bad video board, but it looks to have the Checker board pattern now. oh and.,,, when it flip on the SE, it no longer makes the apple Tone...

So basically all that is good on the se now is, the tube, the case, the drives, the analogue board, the power supply, the video board and the main board are toast! :-p

also i did not try the 5 1/2 drive in any of my mac's it says on quite a few apple disk drive websites that it's not electrically compatible, witch is fine...

well, flipflopping the ROM/SWIM from the messed up board to the good board and gained FDHD without errors, further proves that burns network filters could be bad. Grab out a meter and test them for leakages/shorts to ground. Oh, and youll get a checkerboard screen if the ROMs arnt in there correctly, but I am sure you checked that though. So disregard.
