Macintosh Portable - Tunnel Vision LCD display

I know someone who is about to sell a Macintosh Portable M5126 backlit - its working well, recapped etc but one problem - he said after 5 mins after cold start it will have tunnel vision (screen goes black around the corners) he said as soon you switch it on it looks perfect and about 5 mins later it'll start going black.

I am trying to work out - is it LCD or logic board at fault doing that? if not wheres the fault is at?
Cheers

I'm not techknight (the resident Portable expert around here), but my understanding is that this is a known problem with many early active matrix LCDs where the seals fail and moisture seeps in, contaminating the crystals and stuff.

The only fix I know of is to bake them to drive out the moisture, but unfortunately, the risk of severely damaging or destroying the LCD is extremely high, so the solution oftentimes is to simply find a replacement that isn't suffering tunnel vision.
