Macintosh portable clutch mechanism

I'm afraid I have to concede defeat.

After nearly 4 hours of WD40, there is no change.

I tried to get the metal frame out of the plastic bit, but now the teeth are not aligned properly, and I can't rebuild it altogether. Damn it!

I won't be able to work on it this week-end or even the week-end after.

I think I will just abandon them and try to get new ones... What do you think?

That sucks. I bet the metal spring is moulded into the plastic. Or installed in such a way they can not be removed.

Have to tried a product like CLR. Or even soak in Vinegar for an hour or so. Vinegar works well for removing light battery corrosion on mobos. I use it often. And its dirt cheap.

On another note, I do have a spare set if interested. I have an almost complete portable that I have been parting out.

Backlit or non-backlit?

I need an LCD cable for mine (it's torn such that the bcklight doesn't work).

p.s. Sorry if I hijacked the thread just now!

Made the same mistake but instantly realized that it could be a bad idea because the clutch might contain some sort of springs inside.

Looked it up, saw what happen to @BadGoldEagle and ripped mine open to dry them out again.

I then proceeded to remove the springs that were inside, cleaned everything, put in silicone based grease and put everything together again.

Clutches are butter smooth again now. I guess I dodged a bullet there.
