Macintosh Classic, manuals, install disks etc.

Yet another conquest:

Macintosh Classic : Not so yellowed but has an hole in the side (!), original keyboard, mouse, System 7 discs, original Macintosh/System 7 manuals (5) all original papers and paperwork. 4MB RAM, 40MB hardisk. Works fine, more quiet than my first Classic, good picture quality also.

Now i have 3 Classics :b&w: Two working, one dead. Might be getting one more Classic, one SE and one 512k..

The machine had some C-programming tools in it.

The hole, even looks like made for cooling the case/prosessor, is located where you could adjust the picture directly. What an ghetto modification at it's worst.

Some more details on that would be great.

The hole, even with a fan added, looks like it's in altogether the wrong place to help with cooling. If anything, it would disrupt the designed airpath - cool air drawn in there will totally bypass the logic board, resulting in less airflow over the CPU and mainboard, maybe even none at all. That's begging for sealing up with a LED-lit Apple logo, imho :D Any airflow improvements should be designed to help air pass along the designed path, not to compete with it.

/ETA/ On the other hand, I could perhaps see how a fan in that position blowing out, rather than in, might help.

Maybe a case swap with a dead Classic is in order? Or, could it be covered with an Apple sticker or something else? That would be an easy four second fix. Either way, good deal. The Classic and Classic II (ditto with Performa counterparts and 128k) are the only compact Macs yet to fall into my lap for some reason.

Seem that the case swap is ahead as the next task. I thought of the sticker, i have some vintage "rainbow" logo stickers around, but it would look as nasty as anything else

I'd say the swap is the best bet, especially since you've already got a donor. Maybe the cut case could have a bigger hole cut for a window? Could be better looking at least, either to show the guts of a Classic, or perhaps in building a Macquarium? Just trying to think of things to do with that hole... I kind of like that Macquarium idea with a side window. At least you wouldn't feel bad hacking up that case.

Bunsen: The programming tool in the Classic was "Harvest C v1.3

Opened the dead Classic today. Took a look of the motherboard, and it was missing the PRAM and quite a few parts were resoldered but seem not to have helped. Kept the motherboard, maybe will hang it to the wall at the office and took the extention RAM board for keeping. Didn't touch the HD or diskdrive, shall do so later.

The case is quite yellow, so did not swap the case yet. The better unit mixed with the dead-unit's case would make interesting color-drift from lesser yellow to more yellow. Not eye pleasing.
