Ok so the 512K showed up and as promised when turned on no chime or bong. Lines on screen then whines and switches to kinda checkerboard. Brightness knob works, adjusting height and witdh on board works. So does that mean flyback? I assume that from the switching and whining. I havent had many issues with analogs before but this one looks as clean as I have ever seen. No warm spots on the plastic. I moved the power connector on the analog as my plus had an issue with that once , didnt change anything.
Well I took out a working plus conversin and put in the 512 motherboard and same thing. So I guess its time to change the 3 radials on the motherboard and see if it does what it should. Gonna have to start keeping some of these on hand I guess.
So both my 5126 and my 5120 showed up and in knowing fashion the 5126 booted and the 5120 did not (most likely caps of coarse).
Now I will probably do some recapping but the 5126 ran but sucked up power fast in comparison. In its defense the ram is a PDS card giving a total of 8 megs. Could be an 8 meg card but it doesnt have anythig that says that. It has 1 line of dead pixels on the right side
The 5120 is a little different than my first 5120. It rad 1 meg ram in the ram slot and a PDS card with 2 megs of ram. It looks like the card allows an add on to that and has a jumper on it. So my rebuilt unit has 4 megs of ram now. In the bottom of the case is a signature. Neither of my other 2 have a signature in sharpie , actually its intials and is probably an assembly guy thing but just in case here it is.
Now the next thing is the new 5120 does not have screw holes in the top screen. Other than that looks pretty normal.
So doesnt look like there is enough access to screen for a single pixel repair like on a gameboy so Ill leave that alone and recap and let someone else have a stab at the 5120. No books or extras with them but they were very cost effective compared to other portables I have seen. Bags had all thier feet so that was nice.
It looks like the 5120 I redo will be missing the 3 little rubber tabs, have 2 megs of ram, and stock 6.0.8 with not much on it. Of course until its recapped I am getting way ahead of myself.
So I didnt have a regular LC yet or the cool case 605 so I paid shipping for a couple of dead units. They look like hell, yellow, cracking a broken tab, caps leaking all over. I got my work cut out for me. Luckily I have some old small scsi drives as these are all mising the drives and power to them (whick I have somewhere).
So got a duo 230 off craigslist for shipping. That was gonna be it for a while but.... Took my daughter to Sakura con in Seattle so I went to re LC an low and behold they had a duo mini dock, a floppy drive for duo and the scsi connector for it. I also found another 5300 power supply.
Not gonna lie tho I would be pretty stoked if they would give me that Lisa in there.
So I got this DuoDisk off ebay for cheap. It needs 2 new rubber feet and a great cleaing but I really wanted one for my II's. I need to make some tables to set up my man cave soon. I just have kind of run out of space to use alot of what I have.
here is my question, the cable can you just use a standard cable from the DuoDisk to the II?
Needs to be a DB-19 on both ends. That is, unless you want to run one drive at a time. Unfortunately, never got cables with the DuoDisk I still have, nor the one that CelGen modded...
Ok the Duo showed up. I'm gonna use non manly words as its the only way to describe it. It's such a thin dainty little cute thing. Top screen is thin a flimsy, and its so tiny. I like it.
Now once I meet up with freak and get that dock ill be extra happy with it. With a rocket in it I'm sure it will be pretty useable for me.
Someoneasked ages ago for me to post this and I totally forgot. So for all I ever said I would do something and forgot, please remind me. I am not gonna lie I get sidetracked due to a tramatic brain injury. I write alot of stuff down but for that reason there is so much written down I never look at it. I think I am pretty caught up except for this at the moment.
So today is a busy day. Trying to give a home to a G4 quicksilver and an LC475, nabbed a free IIgs CPU, no idea what rom with bad caps but a fully populated memory card (apple). Stopped at free geek picked up a nice looking 5300cs , no battery cover , no hard drive or power supply, with two apple mouse pads for 10 dollars. With meeting freak to get the duo dock its going to be a blast today. Also free geek is having a sale from noon to 4 on Saturday (tomorrow April 6) and it looks like its gonna be a Mac clear out day.
Well the IIe I picked up needs a new keyboard because some of the posts are broke and the classic II needs recapping but it looks like I have each type of compact. Now it's time to bud tables and clean clean clean!!!!
Went to Goodwill in aloha yesterday and found a IBM thinkpad pentium 3 with dock, I need a power supply but it was a dollar in weight so I figured it would be fun to set up next to the duo for looks. Also found a non working ipod video 30 gb. I took it apart cleaned the yuck out of the connector, reseated all the cables (first clue was low battery message) put it back together, reset to factory from computer and loaded it up. Very nice over all for a few dollars. Funny goodwill wont sell computers with hard drive but they sell old phones with sim cards and ipods with hard drives lol.
Well did a craigslist search and picked up a 6400 motherboard with NIC and G3 upgrade, and a G4 PowerBook that was listed as totally broken for twenty a piece. Haven't had time to get the drivers for the G3 card but the totally broken G4 booted right up, go figure they don't like dead batteries ........ Just need a comma key for a 1.67 ghz G4 PowerBook if anyone has a parts keyboard.
