Mac Plus Price

There's an ad near me for a Mac Plus.  It looks like there's discoloration from a label just above the "Macintosh Plus" on the left side.  I guess that probably suggests case yellowing.

It looks like it comes with two serial mice, the original keyboard, an external 800k drive, what seems to be a serial[de-9] to ADB adapter, some sort of carrying bag, and a couple power cords.

The asking price is $100, which is a no go for me.  I'm curious what people think is reasonable assuming it boots and/or to ROM.

[Might also be worth mentioning that if I could get it, I'd probably ditch one of the mice, definitely the 800k external drive, and the bag [although I don't think anyone on this list would want it; I think it's just a random bag].]

If the case is not yellowed, the Mac has never been exposed to sunlight. Selective yellowing is unusual; tanned back and grey/beige fronts are common. Venetian blinds may create strange patterns. Is it yellowing or a stain?

Ask the buyer to look for the serial number. Is it on the bottom or next to the brightness switch?

The serial[de-9] to ADB adapter sounds like a cable adapter for an ImageWriter.

The carrying bag might be interesting. If the Mac Plus is a 128K or 512K which has been upgraded, it is definitely interesting. The 800KB drive is very sellable. Which keyboard is offered?  Have a look at the power cords.

This one, right?  Looks like there was a label of some sort on the front that got removed after the yellowing hard started.  That's not all that unusual.

Providing everything works, it's not a bad price for what you're getting.  The mice go for at least $20 on their own (ditto for the keyboard), and you're getting an external floppy drive too, which can fetch at least that much.  Were you to get it and sell one of the mice, the external drive, and the case (people actually do buy them) you'd probably end up with an effective price of around $50.

A decent working Plus (depending on yellowing) with a keyboard and mouse will set you back at least that much on eBay (before worrying about shipping cost) so if you're looking for a Plus this works out to be a good deal.

That was my thought -to defray, not to profit. I don't need two mice and I have two 800k external drives.

I don't have time to pick it up though and I'm turned off by the mid-1990 production date.

For $100 its not bad. The case itself goes for $25 - $50. Since the keyboard buttons are grey and not tan, its the later version Mac Plus Platinum, So that mouse with the grey button is the one that goes with it. The question is, how much has that case yellowed? If it is in that case for much of its life, probably not much at all. Those photos are hard to tell with out seeing it.

Like EvilCapitolist stated, the mouse, extra floppy drive and keyboard alone goes for $20 or more a piece so for the total sum of the system, you are bascially getting a Free Mac and paying for all those parts. A Mac Plus alone with nothing else (no mouse, no keyboard) on ebay can go for over $200 PLUS Shipping! So in just buying the parts, you are getting a free Mac Plus.

Even if it does not work and needs a recapping, I say it is worth it and I would pick it up for $100. Thing is I'm not in Haddon Township, NJ, but NYC, NY so I'm stuck here and cant go there. But I also already have a(n older Beige) Mac Plus, so it would be nice to have a second one but I have no room for it. Hope who ever gets it gives it a good home.

From a functionality perspective I'd lean towards a later production model.  I figure the longer something is made the more time they have to work out the kinks.

I always prefer later Plus models since they have the Rev 3 ROM, fixes some of those weird SCSI bugs in previous ROM versions.
