Mac OS 9.2.2 on older Power Macs and sheepshaver

Did anyone ever find a hack that would get 9.2.2 to work on older Power Macs and thus sheepshaver? This would be quite useful for use with sheepshaver considering the NetBoot9 disk image freely available from Apple that contains a 9.2.2 system folder.

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1192

I played with it a bit and I can make the "incompatible macintosh" message go away if I swap these resources from an older Mac OS 9:

'boot' ID 3

'gusd' ID 1

After those resources are replaced, it shows the 9.2 startup screen and immediately gives an error type 102 and suggesting that I turn off extensions. When I do, it doesn't help.

I wanted to check here to see if it has already been done first before investing much time into this.

Sheepshaver's lack of MMU emulation is the reason it won't run higher than 9.0.4. I'm not sure how easy/hard/possible that would be to patch out of 9.2.2.

Could the lack of or incompatible MMU be responsible for 9.2.2 not running on Pre-G3 PowerMacs too? I would think that there was a fair bit of effort to get 9.2.2 running on, say, a 6100 sometime in the past. The 9.2.2 Finder works fine with a 9.1 system on these Macs so it should be constrained directly to the System file.

It would be AWESOME if the ease at which we're beginning to hobby-hack early 1990s Macs will apply to late 1990s Macs in the future. dougg3 is paving the way with his Power Mac G3 firmware update I think!

I don't know about earlier PPC machines, but 9.2.2 boots and runs fine on an 8600/300 with the standard 604ev cpu.
