Mac Classic (again!)

I got a Classic last week. Turns out I have another one coming my way next week!!!

This one has 2MB RAM and no hard drive (I do have one I can stick in there). There's also an Extended Keyboard II with it, although I'll probably use one of my other keyboards on it since it will become part of my mobile lab for the kiddos (which I posted earlier about).

It should come in the mail in about a week. It was a pickup from that auction site some people here don't like.

With this "Computers for Kids" venture successful, I figured I'd pick up another compact or two. I probably will have to clear out some other stuff I don't use so I can store the new Macs, so keep your eyes peeled in the trading post section for some less than portable stuff!

I also saw a classic in the salvation army and it was severely yellowed. It wasn't priced but I know the lady at the counter always asks way to much. And i already have a Classic II so I rather keep my money and space for a plus

How much does she say a Classic is worth?

My opinion? No more than the price of an SE. In fact, lower, since with a SE a special bracket can be made to allow for dual FDDs + HDD.

The Classic/SE debate has gone on since the Classic was new. At the time, you could get a new Classic for less than a similarly equipped SE. Aside from the custom brackets, the only advantages you got were a second ADB port and a slot. Some users in the day felt the SE was a better made computer. It's also worth noting an SE didn't come with a keyboard in the box while a Classic did. The SE and Classic were made alongside each other for a few months but I don't think the SE prices came down much in early 1991.

The price you pay for an SE versus a Classic these days depends on the configuration and included peripherals. The prices should be about the same due to similar specs. Just my thoughts.

I had a Classic as a kid now I have two SE. I prefer the SE because I have an ethernet adaptor for it. I would love to add a second floppy drive and a HD. But now I only have one HD because I have a high profile HD in there that originally came in my Quadra 700. I chose this HD because it is the same size as my original HD and the HD light connector fits to this HD.

Classic number two arrived in the mail today. I haven't had time to fire it up yet but it looks good!

Probably will stick a 40MB Conner inside it. I have a few laying around from other Classics, which were gutted some time ago.
