some things I'll be repeating from what others said before.
Since this is a Classic and an SE, you would need the Mac serial to Image Writer II printer cable for this to work, not the Apple Modem cable - they look similar but are not. One of them is a cross over cable and the other is not, I forget which though. A mac to StyleWriter Printer cable will also work.
Or you can get the LocalTalk or PhoneNet adapters. With the Phone Net, you need to have a terminating resistor on each end.
They should be connected to the Printer ports and AppleTalk turned on in the chooser.
You did not say what system is being used. But assuming its System 7 of some sort, you need to turn on file sharing and denote which folder is being shared. You might also have to which folder and which user as well, but this is simple to do. Then select AppleShare on the chooser on either machine and connect.
On System 6 this would be next to impossible without getting AppleShare for System 6 or another file sharing program for System 6. But you can do this one way without AppleShare on System 6 - use the Chooser, AppleShare and connect to the other machine. You will have what folder that was set up for sharing on the System 6 machine from the System 7 machine. The System 7 machine wont be able to connect to the System 6 machine but with the shared folder, you can share files between the two.
