LC630 - what makes it a bit crap?

Remember how the 630s had the older SCSI controller installed?
To be more precise, they embedded it into the F108 IC which was also used in the PDS Power Macs too. And if you think that is bad enough, even the 68040 and NuBus PowerPC PowerBooks uses the 85C80 combo chip with it's 53C80 SCSI controller which does not support SCSI Manager 4.3! This also means that the old SCSI Manager has to run in emulation, which reduces performance further.

I have a Performa 638CD, which is nearly identical. The problems I have with my machine are:

1. THE NOISE-The fan is quite loud, and it's position at the top of the case does not help matters at all.

2. FAN POSITION-The fan being located at the top of the case presents two obvious problems:

a. The vent is too easy to accidentally obstruct with the base of a monitor.

b. Once again, the noise.

I had a 636CD 8MB RAM 500MB Hard Drive, Loved the crap outta that machine. I have fond memories of browsing the internet with Netscape 1.1n, On 14.4 dialup, System 7.5, Played Star Wars Rebel Assault and Star Trek 25th Anniversary. Looking at shall we say adult images when they were free waiting forever for them to load :p

In re-reading all of the posts, I noticed that someone else brought up the crowded interior and the tricky front bezel. These are yet more problems that I've experienced myself with my 638CD. The interior is quite a mess of cables, even after I went in and rearranged everything as well as I could. Once I had taken out the floppy drive to clean it, as it was practically spitting dust, and then could never get it to sit directly in front of the slot in the bezel. Also, everything was made from plastic that may have been acceptable (although obviously low quality) even when new, but I think most would agree that most of these Macs have not aged as gracefully as we all would've liked. Mine, due to a combination of an annoying bezel and weak plastics, is short one bezel clip, which has gotten quite annoying, as it causes the entire left side of the bezel to droop downward and outward.
