LC475 floppy formatting

I’ve seen a number of threads on floppy issues, but not specifically formatting issues. Drive seems to work fine for read/write. Logic board recapped.

I found a few bad floppies recently, tried to format, failed. Tried to reformat several new floppies, also failed. It goes all the way to ‘creating directory’ then fails.

The drive was cleaned/lubed recently- is there a failure mode specific to formatting that needs another fix?

in my experience, "newer" floppies tend to not format or read properly in mac floppy drives.
usually stuff with plastic shutters is a bust.
