LC 575 that didn't make it.

I bought an LC 575 and just got it today. Sadly, it didn't make it in transit. It was smashed pretty bad. The case was in pieces ad the CRT was loose with a broken neck and had dug in and ruined the analog board. Luckily, the motherboard is fine. I'm amazed the Connor 160mb hard drive made it. I was able to also salvage the floppy and CD rom drives. Slid the motherboard in an already OS modified Color Classic and it fired right up.

It would have been a great machine on it's own. Even though it was not a Mac TV that I've been looking for, it was kinda close. This one, however, is done.

Of all of the other machines that have traveled well, my only other casualty has been an Apple Lisa that arrived with a broken CRT neck. That one I I fixed :)

It was not double boxed. In fact, it is very rare that I see a double boxed shipped computer. This one was actually packed pretty well but it looked like it took a fall on the top right tip where the monitor is. The shipper offered to file an insurance claim but the parts are worth more than I paid so it didn't work out too badly anyway.

It was shipped via Canada Post from a close city to me. They are usually pretty good. That's the unlucky part.

That sucks. :( I actually cannot remember receiving anything that Canada Post had trashed. I have seen a small wrinkle in a corner of a box or two but never actual crushing or breakage.

Better luck next time.

Macdrone, you have PM. Thank you for the offer. This community is great.

On the shipping side...

I ordered some old eproms once that looked like they were dragged behind the truck and run over. It came with bits in a Canada Post plastic bag with a label. It must have gotten mangled in a sorting machine because it didn't have my address on it an longer. Totally disappeared from tracking but somehow what was left made it. They were enclosed in plastic tubes and I was still able to use them.

Best packing I've ever witnessed was a Commodore Kim-1 I acquired with full documentation, power supply and Kimsi board (sorry, not a 68k). That packing job deserved it's own Facebook fan page :) I never keep packaging material unless it's an original box. That one is still packed in the same packing and will remain with me for transport. It was multi-layer rigid styrofoam (like used under external siding) with thin layers from bottom to top (maybe 15 layers ) with custom cut out compartments for each piece. It is phenomenal.
