iWork 08, What's in the Box?

I ordered a "new" copy of iWork 08 from a seller on Amazon and all I received was a DVD in one of those heavy clear (flexible) plastic envelopes. The picture showed a box. So I'm inclined to be piqued. On the other hand, if all that's in the box is the disk and a few useless fliers, then there's really no reason to care.

So anyone know what's typically in the box? Does iWork often come retail as just a disk? Or is this seller skating near the edge a bit?

Yes, there are only a handful of brochures/licensing materials in a small cardboard holder not much larger than the DVD, and less than 1cm thick. I'm assuming you bought it secondhand, not new on Amazon?

No, it was listed as a "new" retail item by an Amazon seller. Hence my semi-consternation. However, it also seemed possible that Apple might ship the product as just the disk, and frankly, unless I'm missing something important it's just not worth the time and effort to get upset/do anything about it.

Did you get valid serial stickers with it? If not, you could be looking at counterfeit software, which you should bring to the attention of SIIA. Also, you should get the booklets and license in the box. Most licenses require this to be transferred with the software.

You got me wondering, so I opened the clear plastic sleeve with the flap and adhesive strip. It turns out there is a booklet in there with the disk and hte booklet has two serial number stickers on it.

And the plastic envelop had one of those, "You agree to the license and give us right to first refusal of all your offspring by breaking this seal" stickers on it.

So, I think it's all there. I think this may be more like OEM packaging. I wonder if the seller is breaking up bundles, maybe?

The only bundle I can think of is the Mac Box Set (with OS X, iLife, and iWork), but for some reason I think that came out with iWork 09 and was never used with 08.

All boxed iWork versions I've purchased have come with the serial number on a sticker (the same serial number is e-mailed when you buy it online).

To see if it's bundleware, read your license. If it reads anything about not transferring the software without other bundle components, you know it was sold illegally. I remember those clauses being in some EULAs when purchasing hardware with accompanying software (especially true of CD-ROM drives in the 1990s).
