itunes Home Sharing

I was delighted that home sharing would work with audio files off of my Apple Silicon mac mini and onto my G4 cube running Leopard Sorbet. However, I'm attempting to finally go through all my music from the last couple of decades, which is a mix of 128 kbps mp3s to 512 kbps AAC files, and standardize them at 320 kbps AAC. If I'm not mistaken, that is the maximum bit rate that an ipod can handle, without doing one of those Rockbox conversions. In custom building an ipod soon, that's why I'm going through all my music in the first place.

In doing so I've noticed that once I have the newer/higher bit rate files, they no longer play on my cube over home sharing. Anything lower than 320 kbps seems to work fine. If I copy the files over onto my cube's hard disk, they play fine as well. But they just won't play over home sharing any more.

Does anyone have any insights into how I might get home sharing to work?

Unfortunately, Airplay 2 is limited to 256kbps audio or lower. This means that attempting to use home sharing to stream via Airplay 2 will also be limited, and there's no downsampler provided in Apple's product.

Solutions around that? Find some other non-Airplay method of sharing the audio, whether that be a SMB/AppleShare IP fileshare, a JellyFin server, or something else. The alternative is to downconvert copies of your files to 256kbps AAC (which is where I keep all mine).
