Wow, this pretty much makes up for the craptop I recieved:

A generic PC with a AMD Thunderbird 1000 CPU, apparently @ 1ghz; it has no RAM, not sure on the HD, and it has a DVDROM drive. w00t!

Your situation reminds corresponds to mine. Until my last conquest, I had DDR memory but no machine to use it in.

An Athlon 1000 isn't too bad depending on what is done with it. Also with DDR it may support something faster, up to an AthlonXP 3200+ depending on the chipset on the motherboard. If not that fast then most likely up to a 2600 with 266mhz bus speed.

Yeah, I actually plan on selling it, apparently the fact that it uses DDR boosts the price. It is a beige box, however. Luckily DDR RAM is cheaper than, well, SDRAM. If I am to sell it, it will be as-is, with no RAM or HD. What would be a fair asking price?

1Ghz PCs stripped are pretty much giveaway items, maybe $20 if somebody likes the case or it has a decent video card.

Once you pay for a HD and RAM you basically can buy a complete system anyway.

At least it's a generic, unlike Dell computers, these use standard parts. It is a beige box with a Rage 128, it would be perfect for web browsing. Maybe I can bum a cheap 128-256MB DDR stick off a friend for a couple bucks and use one of my own spare HDs. except for the case it looks like a very nice and usable little machine, I bet Xubuntu would fly on it.

is there any marking on the mobo to tell what it is, like brand and model number. from the sounds of it its going to be very low end DDR like 1600 or maybe 2100.

does it have AGP or is it PCI only.

It has AGP and PCI, the college that bought it originally got it in '02. It was just recently taken out of service.

Woo! I wrote down the marking on the motherboard, this is the biggest text, if this isn't it I'll look closer. (some of the text is on different parts of the mobo)

KT3Ultra; MS-6380E; N1996; and a heatsink looking thingy that says MSI DDR.

Sorry if I sound like a complete noob with this, it's because I am. The only time I've been in an AMD/DDR machine was to put a stick of RAM in my grandmother's tower thingy. This is the first AMD/DDR machine I have ever owned.

/edit/ the CPU has a nice little heat sink too, with a fan.

Its worth depends on what one had beforehand.

If someone has been using a slow Pentium 2 system what you have would be considered a worthy upgrade. On the other hand, if they are using the latest and greatest hardware it would not be worth that much.
