Is this a pipe dream?

As in, data pipe... heh, get it? :) ..........ahem.

I'm looking for a way to remotely control my 68k Macs from my El Capitan & Mavericks Macs.

I've read that the last version of Timbuktu for Mac works back to 4.x, whichever version worked with OS 8.6 and above. I can't seem to find any VNC that claims to work with System 6 or 7. (I doubt System 6 would even support it.)

With Timbuktu getting dropped a year ago, I'm guessing it's unlikely that there's one be-all, end-all solution, and I don't know if the last version will even work right under El Capitan. Right now I'm using TeamViewer to connect to my PC and all my OS X machines, and I love it.

I hadn't heard about that. I never store keychain passwords or login info for any accounts having to do with the transfer of money.

Just to be safe, I just changed all my passwords for each computer on my TeamViewer list, and disabled auto-logins, so each login attempt will ask for the password.

I haven't had any money taken from any of my accounts.

IIRC, it doesn't matter about 2FA or passwords. The only safe mechanism right now is the temporary number ID.

Timbuktu works on El Capitan, can't remember what version but i can connect to Timbuktu 3.something in ssw 7.5.3 running on BasiliskII on the rpi3. Could connect to my Duo 270c too.

Timbuktu 5 ( i think... ) running on 10.4 or 10.5 can connect to Timbuktu 1 running on my Classic.

I used to use VNC back in the day to connect to 68K and PPC machines, but I am sure that version of VNC is so old and full of so many different vulnerabilities I wouldnt use it.

Nice, galgot - thanks!  I think the latest released version of Timbuktu for Mac was 8.8.5... they had announced they were working on version 9 but then they killed the entire thing.

So the latest version would connect to pretty much all of my vintage Macs except the ones running 7.1... I don't have any running System 6 but I might install that on a 2nd partition on one of the oldest ones. Good to know.

That's right, just checked this morning , it's  8.8.5 . And the one in basiliskII is  3.

The one in Leopard or Tiger are 6.0.1 .

Think you can't install on System 6, it says it needs 7.

Yeah, VNC has vulnerabilities for sure. For example the basic VNC is unencrypted , like Telnet... Apple used their how version, from leopard I think, with Apple type of login and pass and encryption, but then don't know if it's very much more secure nowadays.

But you can pass VNC through ssh tunnel.

Timbuktu isn't much more secure I think. Read somewhere there was serious security holes.

But the good thing with it is that you can exchange files without having to .sit them to keep the resources . Works like an appletalk, all files resources are kept :)
