Is there a reason my SE/30 can't see a 2gb scsi drive ?

Do you mean it does not show up in something like Lido?

Or it does show up, but does not report the full size?

System 6 cannot address more than 2GB. System 7 is a bit higher.

Just doesn't see it at all...booting from the system 7.5 disk tools floppy.

Same drive shows up happy in my Quadra.

Scsi buss on the se/30 is fine. Finds other drives.

Is it an Apple ROM'd drive?

If not, you need to use 3rd party formatting software like Lido etc

Here. It only runs under System 7, so you might be able to run it off a floppy disk if need be.

Yup... HD SC on the 7.5 disk will not recognize non-Apple drives, and even some Apple drives. I had to initialize my SE/30's drive in my PM 7600 with Drive Setup on the OS 8 CD.

EDIT - Lido? Wish I would have seen that before!

I believe there is is one more tool, FWB Toolkit or something like that, which should be able to handle anything SCSI that has a spinning hamburger of plates.

A volume is either a full disk, or a section of a disk, partitioned into separate parts. If you partition a single drive then each partition is considered a volume.

• The maximum volume size under System 6 and System 7 is 2 GB. System 7.5 increased that limit to 4 GB and System 7.5.2 (and later) increases that limit to 2 TB on some computers, including:

• The maximum number of volumes is theoretically limited to 173 due to the maximum number of open files in the Mac OS. Since there are other files that are opened when the computer boots up, the actual maximum will vary depending upon how many other files are open by the operating system.

• The maximum number of files on a volume is 65,536.
  
• The maximum number of files in a folder is 32,767.

Thanks for your help!!...I squeezed Lido onto a system 6.08 floppy and was able to format the drive no problem.

Huh -- the Mac Garden is in error, it says it only works under System 7 but (you as well) I checked it just now and it'll run under System 6.

Cool. I wouldn't want to do a whole lot in SSW 7 off a floppy disk anyways :disapprove:

Right...I tried just about every version of 7 before i gave up and used 6. It was the only one with a small enough system folder.....At any rate, thanks for introducing me to Lido and getting my SE/30 up and running!
