Iomega Zip 100 Plus Drive

I've got an Iomega Zip 100 drive connected to my Mac Classic through the external SCSI port (with a SCSI 5 ID), and it works just fine. However, I've just picked up a Zip 100 Plus drive and tried to connect that to my Mac Classic instead of the usual standard 100, and I am simply not getting any joy.

What happens is that if the Plus is connected through the SCSI connector (the plus has a combined Parallel/SCSI port), even if the drive is not powered up, when the Mac starts up I just get the flashing question-mark in a disk telling me the system isnt behaving. I have tried the Plus using both SCSI 5 and 6 IDs, with the same response. I'm assuming there is something wrong with the termination here, but I'm a bit stumped.

I've tried to do a reset on the plus, but the hole on the back of the case just seems to be a hole, there is no switch that I can reach with a paperclip.

Is this just some sort of corrupted zip drive, or am I missing something simple?

Cheers in advance

Simon

Is there a termination switch on the Zip Plus? The SCSI drives usually have a termination on/off switch near the SCSI ID selector. But I'm less familiar with the Plus model.

the scsi zip model will have a scsi ID and a termination switch, anything else should be a parallel drive and can blow the bus.

Yes, the Zip 100 plus is an auto detect drive which selects parallel or scsi input cable. I wonder whether it has somehow stuck itself in 'parallel' mode or something?

Are you using a known working SCSI cable? I'm just imagining a previous owner mixing up the Zip drive's cable with an inappropriate but similar looking one (parallel, serial, etc)

Yes, I'm using a SCSI cable that works fine on another drive. I believe that the plus was always pretty poor in terms of connectivity and function, but it is a shame it won't behave!
