Installing RAM in a IIcx...

Thank you for this :) But, does this equally apply to the IIcx?

It does not. The IIcx does not have onboard video, so there's no onboard video performance to decrease. Also, if memory serves (pun intended), the logic for the IIcx memory banks are the same as on the SE/30 and the IIx, and the inverse of the IIci.

Yes, and that commonality is important: when using 16MB simms in Bank A on GLUE-based machines, typically you need to populate something (anything) in Bank B when using the stock ROM. So @keithiepoo try putting your old SIMMs in Bank B as @croissantking said.

Alright... so I ought not to max out this thing with the new RAM I bought? Or, is that not the point? Sorry, not sure I’m following here. Is it that ALL the banks just have to be populated with something? That you guys think is my problem here?

Thanks for all your time, peoples.

Yes, if using 16MB SIMMs all 8 slots typically need be populated. The IIsi ROMs have more robust sizing routines which allow you to use just 4x16MB, but there's other implications to installing a new ROM and it's really not worthwhile IMO.

So: Install 4 x 16MB in the first 4 slots (Bank A) and SIMMs of any size (including 16MB) in Bank B.

Alright. I will try to get to that today. I’ll let anyone interested know how it turns out.

Thanks for your time, folks :)

I want to pass out the cigars and announce a new birth! My baby, my IIcx.. the machine that holds some very nostalgic value for me... has come through the operation with flying colors! He’s resting in post-op, but that op was a success! I have given birth to a IIcx maxed out with 131MB of RAM!

I heard the friendly chime... I threw up my arms in triumph. Start-up held on a dark screen with an inverted smiley Mac icon (something that seemed to be happening before the new RAM came along), but after about a minute, the extensions loaded, the Godzilla startup sound roared out, and, behold...

Thank you folks. A very simple solution. I didn’t want to put all of the SIMMs in until I was sure they worked, but that is the very thing that kept them from working... doh!

Everyone here please have a great Thursday.
