IIci software oddities

I replaced my IIci's PRAM battery and cleaned it up a little. However, now I have a strange software issue:

The mouse works, but when I get to the desktop, it suddenly starts to freeze. However, when I boot with a 6.0.8 disk, the mouse works fine.

Suggestions? Thanks!

A frozen mouse is an OS crash, could be a bad control panel or hd issue.
