ibook battery recall?

I just happened to stumble upon an old recall notice for the powerbook and ibook G4 batteries from long ago.

So, for shits and giggles I checked my ibook G4 battery that seems to hold a charge, has about 260 cycles on it. It falls within the serial number of the recalled batteries.

I am sure the program has long since ended, So what should i do? throw it away and buy a new one in fear of an explosion? or is the battery matured enough that its safe to use? you think apple would still honor it? i doubt it as i cant find the recall info on thier site anymore and I got this laptop 2nd hand anyway..

More than likely the lithium cells will gas up and eventually the pack will be unuseable because the bloated pack won't fit in the system. They usually catch fire if the lithium batteries are ruptured and you do something like try to charge it.

well it lasted that many cycles, and it seems to work fine but i do know the battery doesnt last very long in this machine. hour at most.

That recall program is long gone (I had a battery under it). E-waste it. It's just going to go bad on you anyway. FastMac still carries iBook batteries, last I checked.

I remember when I returned my 12" iBook battery in the recall years ago, Apple sent me two Aluminium Powerbook batteries. Gave one to a mate, sold the other, bought the right battery online and still had $20 left :)
