I really shouldn't...

iMac600

68020
...but I did. Despite my lack of interest to computers, I couldn't help but snap these up for the price and rarity of the parts around this area.

For some strange reason I decided to look in the garbage crate at the markets today, and in doing so, a flash of blue caught my eye. Seconds later, i'd pulled up a Power Macintosh 6100 motherboard with the Gel Pack 601 processor.

:D

Kept sifting, and as I got closer to the bottom of the crate, I pulled up another large card. A 486 DOS card, Apple branded, missing the CPU but shouldn't be too hard to find another one. It had the adapter fitted as well to install it in a low-profile case.

:D :D

Total price: $2.00.

Sweet! Let me know if you need an x100 power supply, I might have a spare kicking around.

Chances are good that the 486 card and adapter are from the 6100 I guess. Strictly speaking, unless you have something exceedingly rare there, it's probably a PDS card, rather than Nubus.

The card has a black edge connector which i'm thinking is NuBus, having never seen one before though. I have seen PDS sockets before though and this sure isn't it. I took some pics, albeit with a phone, and as bad as they are they'll just have to do.

I don't actually have a monitor for the 6100 anyway, so I think this will end up shelved rather than put to use.

Looks like an Apple/Reply 486 PDS card to me. Did you find the cable you need to use to run that card? There are some on ebay cheap.

The external cable? In which case I haven't found it yet, unfortunately.

I also lifted the daughtercard from it and saw:

yep... why not?

the Houdini II PC card shipped with the 6100 has soundblaster support.

iMac600: your card is a PDS card. the connector is one for 040 PDS. the adapter thingy is an adapter from x100 PDS to 040 PDS. you can use the DOS card in a quadra series machine too. ;)

EDIT: some better pics:

Ah, thanks. I hadn't seen a PDS card with this connector prior to today, but I see it's just the same connector, different shape.

This seems to be missing it's CPU. I asked around if there were any spare 486s, but they had none. I think I have a spare AMD 486 here, which should work, but i'll ask first... are there any differences between the Intel and the AMD which may cause issues?
