I just noticed something for the first time

I had just noticed something for the first time while working on a couple of se/30s...

Can you notice it too? And then here comes the age-old question.. why?

I'll give you a clue. It is not the floppy Drive...

Hmm, I don't think I'm getting it... unless it's the fact that three drive cages are stacked on top of each other?

Yep HD sleds and bolt patterns are different, but both are in SE/30s.

I have never seen a compact mac with a different sled! Any thoughts?

I have 3 SE/30s, and I am getting together 2 of them to sell and I just found that kinda peculiar.

The miniscribe had its own pattern if I recall and the standard drive that same to be did not fit it well. When Apple started to move to other brand drives, a different more universal sled was needed. Or if the end user upgraded, a different sled was needed for proper fitment.

Well I was way off, but that's okay!

I think the different sleds have to do with Miniscribe vs other HDD brands. Just for reference, both my SE and my SE/30 have the topmost HDD sled.

yea, funny thing is I have never seen that top sled. its always been the bottom one. Even with the quantum drives in them (upside down of course).

Go figure. ;)

I've got one of each handy, dunno which is from which machine. Just checked, I thought he one with the LED was from the SE, but it has a 2MB Sony FDD and the two slot cage has a Sony MP-51FW-23, so I had it mixed up.

I think 2 slot/4 slot probably works better than top/bottom/whichever way it is in the IP pic.
