Logic has a long history going back to the mid 80s Atari 520 and 1040 home computers, when the program was called Notator. It has (with the appropriate add-ons) the ability to control a range of external devices, including hard disk recorders, like eg Yamaha's CBX series. It's not something exclusive to Roland and the VS AFAIK.
