How to enable MultiFinder in System 6.0.8?

I know it’s possible to enable MultiFinder in system 6, but I can’t figure out how.  Anybody know how to enable MultiFinder in system 6?

It's the Set Startup command in the Special menu. I don't have my System 6 mac running at the moment to double check, but I think there are several options you can choose, including the option of using Finder or Multifinder. Then restart.

I followed your instructions and it worked.  

 
There's also a shortcut. Open your System Folder, hold down COMMAND and OPTION, and double-click the MultiFinder button. This only gets you into MultiFinder; it won't let you go back to single Finder by doing the same to the Finder icon (this requires the Set Startup command).

Do you need a HD for MultiFinder to work?

 
Perhaps the MultiFinder file isn't installed in the System folder?

Check to see if it's there, and if it's not, try reinstalling it somehow using your System 6 disks.

I have these System 6.0.3 Disks:

1. Your Apple Tour (Working)

2. Macintosh Utilities 1& 2 (Not Working)

3. System Tools (Not Working)

4. Printing Tools (Working)

5. HyperCard and Stacks (Working)

[SIZE=1.4rem]6. HyperCard Ideas (Working)[/SIZE]

7 HyperCard Help (Working)

 
MultiFinder would be on either the Utilities disks or the System Tools disk, which is moot for you, since those are the ones not working :/

If you haven't already, you should consider getting a Floppy Emu for this job. It'd make life *much* easier.

Barring that, have you tried downloading the appropriate images from Macintosh Garden or the like, putting them on a bridge Mac with a built-in Floppy drive (if you have one), and making new disks?

I've read about doing a serial transfer from another computer to the Mac, but the ideal situation would be having a FloppyEmu. Right now i'm low on cash but I'll get one soon.

Doesn't The FloppyEmu has a disk back up function? If I manage to recover the disks I would immediately back them up. But right now I'd at least like to use Disk First-Aid, it has helped me frequently.

Nope, unfortunately I do not have one.

All the computers I own are:

1. HP Desktop (Windows7)

2. Dell Latitude D820 (Windows XP)

3. Apple //e

4. Apple //e (w/ 65C02 Upgrade)

5. Commodore 64 With numerous peripherals in box with Styrofoam, plastic bag, and manual.

6. Apple IIGS

7. Texas Instruments TI99/4A

 
What Mac are you trying to do this on (Looks like a Plus )? If it has a superdrive and can read HD disks, there might be a chance you can make disks on the XP Dell. If it doesnt have a built in floppy drive, you need a usb one. Those are pretty cheap. And even then, with a usb drive, you can install SheepShaver and 9.X and make floppies off that with your usb floppy drive (Emulate SheepShaver on your modern PC).

If it doesnt have a superdrive you are out of luck and need a bridge mac or floppy emu. Speaking of bridge macs, I just picked up a 7200 I dont have a use for...
